COMET, METEOR and ASTEROID

* * * Three male pups, born on May 30, 2010 * * *

We could feel them moving inside a few weeks before she delivered. An X-ray at the vet's showed three little babies in there.

Friday morning, around 6:30 AM, the mother went into labor quietly and the first pup came quickly. Better timing there never was. Alex was off work today and Jim was scheduled for a late start. Jim Day did not have time to make his coffee! Alex had him pull on gloves and help. We had everything ready. The second pup came about a half hour later, and the third was about an hour after that. All were strong and lively. We tied off the cords with dental floss and snipped them a minute or so later, after they were all licked off. Smudge was a very good mother and she licked and licked them. We had special food and the Nutri-Cal supplement for her.

They are all very dark; of course, they wil probably lighten up as they grow. One has the white Nipper stripe from his head to his nose, one has a white spot, and the third is all dark, with a white continent on his underside. Names are: Comet, Meteor, and Asteroid.

Here is the MOMMA DOG, Kahlua and Cream...she is a little over three years old. She is a longhair AKC-registered Chihuahua, she weigs about 7 pounds, NON-pregnant. Her nickname is SMUDGE. She is also rich, but that's another story for another time!

This is her first litter...

And HERE ARE THE THREE PUPS!!!

They each weighed about 5 oz. at birth. In the pictures, they are 5 days old and are up to about 8 oz. each.

BELOW - Here is a nice close-up - these pups may be apple-heads like their famous grandaddy, THE NIPPER.

They are voracious little eaters and are surprisingly strong and vigorous.

Won't be long before they get out of the box and leave little presents all over.

Here's an enhanced shot to show their markings a bit better...

Smudge stayed in her box the first few days, and now comes outside a few times a day.
* * * TWO WEEKS LATER and their eyes are open!

They weigh around 16 ounces, so they have more than tripled their weight. Comet, the one with no white markings on his head, is the smallest, and Asteroid, with the white stripe, is the largest. Here are some pictures, taken June 12. Comet was the first one out of the box.
